SPECIAL NOTICE
In the wake of what happened on Tuesday, September 11, I'd like to take a moment and remind everyone of just one of the things that makes America great. In the midst of this national tragedy I want to say that I think that George W. Bush has not done too badly. He has said things that needed to be said and he has reacted in such a way as to show the world that America still stands strong. I credit this to his numerous advisors, for the most part, but none the less am not unhappy with his leadership in this time of crisis.
That being said, I still do not believe that he has the right to be where he is, nor do I believe that he is the right man to be sitting in the Oval Office at this time. In America it is possible to disagree with the government and still stand behind them in a time of tragedy which could easily become a time of war. It is still possible to dislike the president, and yet be a patriot. There are few nations on Earth where our right to do so is so strongly upheld, and even fewer where that right is even acknowledged.
To those people who have criticized us for standing by our principles I say "shame". You do not understand America. You do not deserve America.
HOW THINGS HAPPENED AND WHAT WAS SAID
In a late night ruling on Tuesday, December 12th, the Supreme Court agreed 7-2 to reverse the Florida Supreme Court's decision ordering a statewide recount of thousands of questionable ballots -- effectively ceding Florida's 25 electoral votes and the presidency to Bush exactly five weeks after Election Day.
Bush and Republican vice president nominee Dick Cheney received 271 electoral votes. Gore and Democratic vice president nominee Sen. Joe Lieberman received 266 electoral votes.
Gore and Lieberman received more of the popular vote in the general election but lost in the electoral vote count.
Republicans struck a conciliatory note in speeches before the vote count, calling on Democrats to accept the presidential election results.
But Rep. Corrine Brown, a Florida Democrat and member of the Congressional Black Caucus, said, "We keep hearing, 'Get over this.' We will never get over this. The Supreme Court selected George W. Bush as president -- he was not elected."
John Paul Stevens said, "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of the law."
WHAT THIS PAGE IS FOR
Many of us feel that George Walker Bush is not legitimately the president of the United States, primarily because of all of the irregularities and because of the way in which the Supreme Court stepped in where they did not have an honest and legal place. We do not deny that he will be the president, we simply refuse to accept him as anything other than the Supreme Court's pick for the office not the choice of the people.
There is also the matter of Gore-Lieberman winning the popular vote (that is the actual number of votes cast), but losing the election because of the archaic and now useless institution known as the Electoral College. Would we like to see this done away with? Yes. Do we believe that voting needs to be reformed and standardized for the entire nation? Yes.
If you agree with anything at all that has been said on this page, and you would like to show your displeasure with the result of the 2000 Presidential Election, then place our image and link on your page and help to show, in a quiet and simple way, how you feel. Spread the word that the American people are NOT happy with George W. Bush!
